Finistère Insolite

Finistère Insolite

This book is a photographic journey through the wild, dramatic yet often sublime landscapes of the most tempestuous department of Brittany, France. The 113 photographs — mostly in colour plus some in rich black & white — celebrate the untamed rawness of the terrain while also finding moments of great beauty and tranquility. And they explore the scale of the environment and our place in it.

photo e-books

These e-books are available in various formats. You can download any of them as a personalised PDF, which means you can view the book on pretty much any device, although I'd recommend a desktop computer, laptop or tablet. Some are also available via Apple Books to read using the Books app on Apple desktops, laptops and iPads.

Berlin Winter

Photographs of West and East Berlin at a time when the wall was still up and the Cold War was still sending a chill across the world. All the photographs were shot on 35mm film. 42pgs. Available as a downloadable PDF and on Apple Books.

Dust & Shadow

Beautiful landscape photographs exploring how the relics of the recent past are becoming the mysterious monuments of the future. 66pgs. Available as a downloadable PDF and on Apple Books.

Somnia

When you try to remember a dream, typically all you can recall are fragments, sometimes just single images like stills from a mostly forgotten movie. Photographs can be like that. You take these slices of memory and use them to spin a new story or interpretation. These images were all shot on 35mm film. 46pgs. Available as a downloadable PDF and on Apple Books.

American Revelations

A personal photographic journey through the US and Canada in photographs taken over several visits in the 1980s. All pictures were shot on 35mm film. Downloadable as a personalised PDF e-book.

Dragon Hammer

A collection of photographs documenting Operation Dragon Hammer 1990 — a NATO amphibious assault exercise. The book focuses on three ships — the USS Eisenhower, USS Saipan and HMS Intrepid — and particularly on the aircraft, including F-14 Tomcat, A-6 Intruder, F/A-18 Hornet and H-4 Sea King. Shot on film, this is a window into a classic period in military aviation. 41pgs.

Time & Space

Capital

A photographic exploration of London. A very personal view of the city in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. A mixture of colour and black and white photographs, all the images were shot on 35mm film. 44pgs. Available as a downloadable PDF and on Apple Books.

The Watchers

This seems to be something of a habit. Wherever I go I find people watching and waiting. This collection of photographs includes a mix of 35mm film and digital images covering a span from 1990 to 2024. 44pgs. Available as a downloadable PDF.

Hitched

An oblique and sometimes humorous look at weddings — none of them my own. These were three (and a bit) weddings I encountered in the 1970s and early 1980s where my only role was as a slightly bemused onlooker. It's no wonder people don't hire me as a wedding photographer. Mostly black and white photographs, all shot on 35mm film. 34pgs.

Calvary

The French landscape is littered with Catholic iconography. What's interesting to me is how these crucifixes and statues exist alongside, and sometimes in competition with, the mundane artefacts of life. 33pgs. Available as a downloadable PDF and on Apple Books.

Postcards from the CPE*

Believed to be the first known publication by the Silent Museum, this collection of putative postcards appears to speak of an unspeakable epoch. Apparently, some of my work is included. 38pgs. Available as a downloadable PDF and on Apple Books.

*A Silent Museum University Press publication.

Lady Caine

A strange cast of misfits is on the hunt for a missing pilot — for what he has or what he knows. Each member of this weird posse poses a threat to the others. But their greatest danger comes from their own egos, paranoia, incompetence and inability to cope. The result is an offbeat thriller about the hilarious fringes of international drug crime.
